Dark Souls 2 has a special place in my heart. Although it was polarizing at launch due to some of the choices the dual-director team of
Tomohiro Shibuya and Yui Tanimurai compared to the original game's vision from famed developer Hidetaka Miyazaki.
However, you may want to give Dark Souls 2 another chance, especially since it's been very recently overhauled. You can grab said overhaul right now on NexusMods (via DSOGaming), and if you didn't like how the game looked initially, this might bring you back in.

It features over 2,500 textures, and is part of the staggeringly ambitious "Renewal Project" for the game, which also includes gear, UI, and dynamic lighting renewals. If you combine all of these together, you get a completely overhauled version of Dark Souls 2.
