LEGO Officially Reveals First-Ever Mario Minifigure & New Sets

LEGO has officially revealed a LEGO Mario minifigure, satisfying a fan request that's been prevelant since Nintendo and LEGO first partnered for Super Mario sets. To date, the LEGO Mario line has split its attention between high-end adult collector models and the play-oriented SMART Play system with oversized, blocky figures.

The offical LEGO Instagram account shared a video showing a Mario minifigure with a custom head mold jumping out of a green pipe, ending with a "Coming in 2027" tease. The caption clarified that new sets are on their way, presumably featuring the revealed Mario minifigure along with other characters.

LEGO hasn't yet revealed the details about what to expect from the upcoming minifigure-based Mario sets, but there's a world full of possibilities. Minifigure-scale Sonic the Hedgehog sets have already set a precedent for LEGO adaptations of iconic platform levels, with Green Hill Zone making repeat appearances in brick form.
