The Legend of Zelda series has been through a ton of different guises over the years, and the developer has a pretty remarkable record of hitting the right notes, regardless of which formula they choose to use.
Most recently, Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom showed just how much potential there was for the franchise in an open-world setting. Add to that the stunning visuals the developer managed to put together, and it was clear that they were on to a winner, possibly laying out what future games were set to look like for a while yet.
That said, the older games in the series are still some of the favorites for the fan base at large, and there's plenty of reason that making a return to those, in combination with the above, could be a really exciting new era once again.
For many, Wind Waker still represents one of the high points in the Zelda series to date. Though it already got a direct sequel in Phantom Hourglass on the DS, it really feels like there's a ton of untapped potential to continue its story in a new way, perhaps with the setup that BotW...
