Legendary Halo author William C. Dietz has passed away. The news of his passing was recently confirmed by his family, leaving many in the Halo community mourning the loss of the writer behind one of the first books in the franchise, Halo: The Flood.

While Halo is famous for its video games, the franchise has featured in other forms of entertainment, with its lore and settings making it a natural fit for books. In fact, the first book starring the Master Chief was published in October 2001, even before the release of Halo: Combat Evolved on the original Xbox console. Since that first novel, many other stories have been released based on the Halo universe. These stories have even influenced the mainline games, such as introducing Blue Team.
