Steam's New Free Dark-Fantasy RPG Is Final Fantasy Meets Baldur's Gate 3

We're living in a bit of a golden age for RPGs, with recent years delivering exceptional breakout hits like Baldur's Gate 3, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. It's starting to feel like an interesting new RPG project is popping up on Steam every day, which I certainly can't complain about. The latest contender has shades of both Baldur's Gate 3 and Final Fantasy, but it looks like it's embracing the darkness more than either.

The Steam page for Void Hunters showcases an upcoming "dark fantasy, turn-based RPG" where "the world-devouring Void" has to be countered by smart use of strategy and squad-building. Revealed on March 12, Void Hunters is currently offering sign-ups for alpha build invitations. The game hasn't shared a release window yet, but whenever it does come out, it's planning to embrace a free-to-play model.

The squad-based emphasis of Void Hunters sounds a lot like XCOM or Fire Emblem, but the actual gameplay doesn't look anything like them.
