Until reviews were released recently with less than absolutely immaculate scores across the board, Pearl Abyss’ fascinating Crimson Desert was one of the only Game of the Year 2026 contenders that Grand Theft Auto 6 fans were frightened of. Hype has transcended whatever potential Grand Theft Auto 6 actually has to be a terrific game, and even non-believers who do not particularly enjoy Rockstar games are likely to agree that Grand Theft Auto 6 is a shoo-in for Game of the Year at this year’s Game Awards.
Crimson Desert’s review scores have not helped its case in the matter, either, or at least that is what fans like Twitter/X user GTA 6 Countdown have surmised. Someone with a username like ‘GTA 6 Countdown’ is sure to be biased toward the game they are looking forward to more, but it is true that Grand Theft Auto 6, based on the review scores of its predecessors and the legendary pedigree of Rockstar, may have what it takes to sweep The Game Awards on its own merit.
