Super Mario 64 Plus Just Got A Surprise Release, Available Now

A fan-made, enhanced port of Super Mario 64, called Super Mario 64 Plus, has recently received a major new update. The Nintendo 64 classic is about as vaunted as a video game can get, and it's kept alive decades after release by fan projects like SM64 Plus. Such ports help the aging game overcome its original tech limitations, but also help die-hard platformer fans ease the wait for the next 3D Super Mario game.

Version 4.0.1 of Super Mario 64 Plus was just released a couple of weeks ago (hot on the heels of 4.0.0), and can be downloaded from Mario Fan Games Galaxy, or MFGG, though a separate ROM file is required. Super Mario 64 Plus is a PC port of the classic Nintendo game specifically focused on customizing your experience. The new versions, according to the game's changelog on GitHub, add more rendering options, like V-Sync, Anti-Aliasing, Anisotropic Filtering, an "N64 Blur" special effect, and an improvement to SM64's C-button camera controls, among many other changes and fixes.
