EA Is Officially Killing Off One Major Video Game Forever

Online games rarely last forever, and it often feels like EA games suffer from the most mercenary shutdowns. While some of the company's past hits have lively fanbases years after release — older Battlefield and Battlefront games especially — the axe can always eventually fall.

Now, Battlefield Hardline is set to be delisted and shut down on consoles, as announced by the official Battlefield Comms account on X. The game will be removed from Xbox One and PS4 digital storefronts on May 22, with the server shutdown falling on June 22, one month later. Those who own Battlefield Hardline on console will still be able to play the single-player campaign, while the game will remain available and operational in full on PC.

It's been over a decade since the release of Battlefield Hardline, so its delisting isn't a total surprise. It is, nonetheless, meeting a more untimely demise than some other Battlefield titles. Despite releasing before Hardline, Battlefield 4 will remain available on consoles for the time being, and I'd be surprised to see 2016's Battlefield 1 depart any time soon.
