During PAX East 2026, we made our way to the NIS America booth and were able to get some hands-on time with its upcoming title, Disgaea Mayhem. While fans of the long-running series are used to its deep, turn-based tactical RPG gameplay, this entry takes things in a very different direction. Instead of sticking to its roots, Disgaea Mayhem reimagines the formula as an action RPG, bringing familiar characters into a faster-paced, more direct combat experience.
It’s definitely a noticeable shift for the franchise, and one that may catch longtime fans off guard, but it also opens the door for something fresh within the Disgaea universe. And if you’ve been one of the many, like me, who wanted to get involved with the series, but wanted something fresh to pull you in, this might that.
Of course, since there was no direct capture available, we had to make do with a tripod on the insanely busy show floor.
