Warner Bros. Games and HBO have just officially announced a new video game adaptation of the hit fantasy drama franchise Game of Thrones. This upcoming Game of Thrones adaptation is a free-to-play strategy game for iOS and Android devices titled Game of Thrones: Dragonfire.
Though it uses the wider Game of Thrones title, Game of Thrones: Dragonfire is primarily based on House of the Dragon, a spinoff prequel show that debuted in 2022. This show takes place nearly 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones Season 1, 172 years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen, and follows the events of "The Dance of Dragons," a brutal war of succession among the Targaryens. While House of the Dragon hasn't made quite the same cultural impact as Game of Thrones, it's still received some critical praise and has been nominated for almost 50 awards, including a handful of Golden Globes and Primetime Emmy Awards.
Game of Thrones is widely considered HBO's best offering, but a 24-year-old drama actually deserves to take that title.
