2XKO Releases New Champion Akali and Massive Balance Update

Riot Games released its latest major update for 2XKO, its fighting game based on the Runeterra universe, adding the latest champion in Akali, while also adding new content and massive balance changes to the roster. After a very lengthy development cycle, 2XKO finally launched for PC and console players, first arriving in an "early access" state for PC players in 2025, and then launching in full for everyone at the start of 2026.

Unfortunately for the tag fighter, it seems that 2XKO didn't quite hit the numbers Riot Games was expecting. Just a month after the stylish fighter arrived, Riot Games announced that the 2XKO team was being downsized, losing around 80 developers or half of the original launch team. Despite the sour news, Executive Producer Tom Cannon attempted to reassure fans that this didn't mean 2XKO was ending development and would continue on with a smaller, but more focused team. Just a short time later, the team doubled down on those efforts by revealing two upcoming fighters and future plans for the fighting game.

2XKO fans are biting back at Riot Games regarding the sky-high pricing of some of the fighting game's microtransaction cosmetics....
