It's hard to believe The Legend of Zelda was officially released over 40 years ago, and fans have been excited this year to see what Nintendo has in store to celebrate the momentous occasion. While there have been several exciting rumors, such as an Ocarina of Time remake, as well as plenty of Zelda-themed merch drops, fans haven't gotten the big announcement they've been hoping for just yet.

Luckily, the Zelda community has access to some incredible fan-developed projects, and there is a ton of content out there if you're looking for a completely new and unique experience to keep you busy while waiting for Nintendo's inevitable 40th Anniversary big reveal.

Fans can check out this first-person perspective 3D remake of the original The Legend of Zelda that is 100% free and available to play now, and it comes completely out of left field, introducing gameplay mechanics from a beloved and unexpected classic (via Lifehacker).
