If you asked a hardcore Final Fantasy fan what their favorite game in the series was, you'd end up with a few of them piling up at the top. Final Fantasy 7 is a genre-defining game, and it's clear how much Square Enix itself values it with all of its releases and the massive remake trilogy project. But you'd also see a lot of votes for Final Fantasy 6, which many still contend is actually the best in the series to date.

It's easy to see why Final Fantasy 6 would be in the conversation. Before FF7, it managed to ensnare millions of RPG fans in 1994 on the SNES, with its rich yet tumultuous world and one of the largest casts in Final Fantasy history. Plus, the villain, Kefka, is often pitted directly against Sephiroth as Final Fantasy's most iconic foe.
