Mario Games Will Change Forever After New Movie Bombshell

For decades, Super Mario has reigned supreme at Nintendo, and the platforming king is hardly shy about it. After overcoming his humble roots, Mario has gone on to define the video game industry by keeping Nintendo on track, inspiring dozens upon dozens of hit games. These days, Mario is now diversifying his spread as Nintendo's work with Illumination has turned the plumber into a movie star. So really, it isn't too surprising to learn Nintendo will let its new hit film forever change a key piece of Mario lore.

The whole ordeal comes straight from Japan, as Nintendo Dream Web reported an interview Shigeru Miyamoto took part in ahead of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie's release. It was there the Nintendo director was asked bluntly about the film's surprising revelation regarding Peach's backstory. The movie branches off from the video game lore entirely, giving Peach an origin story that few fans expected. It turns out Miyamoto is a fan of the change, and he hopes that the canonical shift sticks around.
