Steam Machine Price Leak Has Gamers Concerned Console Is "DOA"

Valve's Steam Machine remains in limbo amid the ongoing RAM shortage. Announced late last year as part of a hardware trio alongside the Steam Frame (a VR headset) and the impressively designed new Steam Controller, the Steam Machine is still slated to release sometime in 2026, but does not have an exact release date nor a price point. Some new rumors about the Steam Machine's shifting price, however, have numerous prospective consumers already predicting the device's failure.

Brad Lynch, a VR peripheral designer, claims to have insider knowledge of how the Steam Machine's projected price has changed from before to after the RAM shortage. According to Lynch, the Steam Machine's price will be "affected the most," with the Steam Frame's price change from Valve's original plan being "not as bad."

The Steam Machine taking the brunt of RAM prices going through the roof had already been presumed, given it requires more RAM than the streaming-focused Steam Frame, but Lynch's assessment making its way to Reddit reignited the ongoing conversation about Valve's new PC, its price, and whether it still has a market niche to fill.
