Super Smash Bros. has just arrived on PC, thanks to the efforts of some very dedicated fans. The first Super Smash Bros. game was released for the N64 in 1999, and featured a large roster of fighters from a number of beloved franchises. Players could pit their favorite characters against each other in up to four-player brawls on a variety of stages—which also include nods to prominent IPs.
Super Smash Bros. was followed up by three more games, each of which expanded the fighter roster with even more familiar faces. But the series has always had one thing holding it back from reaching an even wider audience: All the games have been Nintendo console exclusives.
One dedicated fan has spent years trying to amend this, and his efforts have finally come to fruition. According to DSO Gaming, a team of volunteers led by JRickey has just launched the beta build for its first unofficial native PC port of Super Smash Bros., available via GitHub.
