When I was growing up and, in many ways, similar to the Sith, we dealt only in absolutes. There were no gray areas. You were expected to choose. On the playground for music, it was either Blur or Oasis. For sci-fi, it was either Star Wars or Star Trek. For wrestling, it was either Hulk Hogan or The Ultimate Warrior. The most important of all those were video game platformers. It was either Sonic the Hedgehog or Super Mario.
While the paunchy plumber had his fans back in the day, there was only one cool choice. Sonic was the king on consoles all the way up until the 64-bit era changed everything.
