It's been nine years since Mass Effect's last release, and Andromeda wasn't exactly met with the same warm greetings that fueled much of the reception to the original trilogy. We've spent much of the interim well aware that BioWare is, ostensibly, working on the next Mass Effect. And now that Dragon Age: The Veilguard is out, the studio is presumably that much harder at work on it... but between Veilguard's own shoddy overall reception, and the generally perceived dicey state of BioWare itself, fans are right-properly cautious.
All of this is to say, fans of sweeping space opera RPGs have had to look elsewhere for a very long time. And there really isn't much. The Expanse: Osiris Reborn is shaping up to fill the hole to some extent, although it's set in an established universe told predominantly through books and a television series, and only follows one aspect of that world among many. But then there's Exodus. Several prominent BioWare veterans, including lead writer Drew Karpyshyn, are hard at work on Hasbro's 2027 epic, and all signs are pointing to "Mass Effect spiritual successor."
Hasbro's CEO, Chris Cocks, doesn't exactly lose corporate stock points for saying nice things about...
