Call Of Duty Black Ops Lead Asks "What If David Lynch Made Shooters" With New Studio

David Vonderhaar is best known for his time at Treyarch, where, as a designer, he was instrumental in the creation of Call of Duty: Black Ops and its sequels. Vonderhaar was particularly interested in the series' popular multiplayer component and was one of the driving forces behind balancing multiplayer around esports.

Vonderhaar left Treyarch in 2023 and founded BulletFarm under the NetEase umbrella. However, earlier this year, the Chinese conglomerate pulled funding for many of its external studios, including BulletFarm and, reportedly, Highguard developer Wildlight Entertainment.

However, a new holding company led by NetEase veteran Simon Zhu has stepped in to save BulletFarm. Zhu's new company, GreaterThanGroup, is also funding Fate of the Old Republic developer Arcanaut Studios.

"BulletFarm lives. Same name. Same DNA. Same commitment to the player experience. But now, a new game. One backed by the full commitment of our new and sole partners at GreaterThanGroup," a statement from the studio reads.

"We're in the early stages of creating a completely new first-person multiplayer/co-operative experience under the GTG banner, with high-intensity action, systemic gameplay, and cinematic immersion at its core," the statement continues.
