After previously telling fans to "move on" from The Lord of the Rings Online, Amazon's head of games has confirmed that its Lord of the Rings MMO has been cancelled.
Considering how beloved The Lord of the Rings is, you'd think that it would have a very easy time in the world of video games. As history has taught us, though, that's not really the case. Outside of the iconic movie tie-ins, Shadow of Mordor (but not Shadow of War), and some other classics, The Lord of the Rings has had it surprisingly rough when it comes to gaming.
Perhaps the biggest example of this in recent memory is Amazon's Lord of the Rings MMO, which was announced a few years ago in 2023.
