The first Saints Row game was an Xbox exclusive, but THQ enlisted CD Projekt Red's localization team to help bring the sequel to PC — it was a disaster. Broken cutscenes, characters not appearing, audio bugs, resolution issues, the list goes on. It wasn't exactly unplayable, but it took a lot more effort to see the shining gem beneath all the muck that had piled on top. And yet the reward for sticking with it was missing out on the console-exclusive DLC.
In 2019, Volition announced that it had found the lost source code and would begin updating the game to run more smoothly on modern systems, replacing the defunct GameSpy multiplayer with Steam matchmaking, while also adding the missing Ultor Exposed and Corporate Warfare DLC, spearheaded by community manager Mike 'IdolNinja' Watson. He unfortunately passed away in 2021 of cancer, but knowing his condition and what limited time he had left, he planned ahead to make sure the work would continue without him. Then Volition shut down.
In so many words, the Saints Row 2 PC port has been dragged along the tarmac like Carlos (rest in peace), but thankfully, fans have come to the rescue. The modding team...
