Last year, when Half-Life 3 rumors were heating up, and everyone was convinced that the game was going to be announced any minute, Geoff Keighley posted a picture of his Steam account with one game wishlisted. The fact it was Steam, compounded with the reports from various reputable leakers that the game could be announced at any moment, had everyone convinced that it was Half-Life 3. It wasn't.
There was a lot of this going around. Keighley later posted a picture of a structure that looked vaguely like the Citadel in Half-Life 2, so fans hyped themselves up thinking it was yet again proof that Gabe Newell would stroll off his yacht and onto the stage to pull back the curtain and finally, after 20 long years, finish counting to three. It was a Fortnite event.
Fans also thought an anniversary post for Half-Life 2: Episode 1 was Keighley's way of teasing an announcement.
