Star Citizen's Fundraising Has Eclipsed $1 Billion, And No, It Isn't Out Yet

It's another victory lap for Star Citizen, the game that still has not exited early access. The space epic, as gorgeous and sweeping as it is uniquely adept at fundraising, has crossed the billion-dollar threshold. Celebrations commence. I'm sure nobody out there has regretted donating. Not even once.

The news has been making the rounds today, albeit not through official channels. The developers haven't marked the occasion, at least not as far as I can tell—perhaps because they knew there'd be a deluge of negative-slanted articles as a result. (I'm attempting to be as impartial as I can possibly be, believe it or not! I know some people genuinely enjoy this early access video game!)

But folks are noticing that we are now at $1,001,195.396 as of May 24, 2026. The most recent stretch goal is 14 years old, at $250 million. Suffice it to say, Star Citizen moved on from traditional stretch goals long ago. Instead, the game has added feature after feature, ship after ship after ship, essentially adopting the world's first and only long-term live-service unreleased model.
