A New Xbox Game Outsold A New Nintendo Game Last Week, But Lego Batman Beat Them Both

It's no secret that Forza Horizon 6 raced out of the starting gate at launch, attracting hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of players. That popularity has led to something you don't often see in the modern era - an Xbox-published game performing better during its shared launch week than a new Nintendo first-party release.

Even though a lot of you paid to play Forza Horizon 6 early, the new racing game didn't officially launch until May 19. That meant the first sales data for its physical release has only just been recorded. A huge week for video games, as a few days later, Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight and Yoshi and the Mysterious Book hit store shelves, too.

According to The Game Business's Christopher Dring, Forza sold more physical copies during its launch week than Nintendo's new Yoshi game. You might think to yourself, "Well, of course it did, have you not seen the Forza numbers?" Yes, I have, but early reporting on those numbers is almost exclusively on Steam. Forza Horizon 6 didn't get a physical release on PC, which means those Nintendo-beating numbers are all thanks to Xbox players.
