When a developer announces that they're working on a live service game, most tend to associate the additional with additional monetization, whether it be microtransactions, loot boxes, or a series of battle passes. In fact, it seems like pretty much every online game has a battle pass these days, regardless of the genre, but it seems as though PlayStation's new live service shooter, Concord, is bucking the trend.
First shared by Twitter user Okami13, the developers at Firewalk Studios have revealed Concord's plans for post-launch content going forward, announcing that the game will not have any battle passes like its closest rivals Overwatch 2 and the upcoming Marvel's Rivals. Firewalk has explained that the reason for doing this is that the team wanted to "focus our attention on making Concord a rewarding and robust experience on day one."
Instead, Concord will reward players for simply playing the game, leveling up characters, and completing jobs, which is a little surprising when you look at the state of multiplayer gaming these days. Even Helldivers 2, PlayStation's other big live service title, has battle passes in the form of Warbonds, so Concord opting not to have one at all is rather...
