As a direct result of current market conditions, such as the tariffs imposed by President Trump and the rising cost of gaming components, Nintendo raised the price of many Switch 2 accessories last year in order to mitigate their losses.
A year later, and those specific tariffs from the Trump administration have now been deemed illegal by the U.S. Supreme Court, with businesses who were affected due to receive a piece of a whopping $160 billion tariff refund. Unfortunately for consumers—Nintendo says they aren't obligated to share.
Consumers Left Empty-Handed as Nintendo Collects Tariff Refund
The Switch 2 accessory price increase wasn't a large one, with most of the items affected recieving just a $5-$10 bump (such as the Joy Con 2 controllers and the Switch 2 Pro Controller), but with the price of these controllers now both over $100, every little bit counts.
Buying a new gaming console is an exciting experience, but unfortunately, in this day and age, it's one that can leave a lasting dent in your bank account if you want to add a couple of games, a carrying case, and a fancy controller to the bundle—and, of course, a warranty.
