Stalker 2's Temporary Xbox Exclusivity Cost More Than Its Entire Development

Xbox has secured some big hits for Game Pass over the years, but we’re usually not privy to how much this costs. Now, we have a better idea of how much Xbox has been willing to spend to get a game on its service and make it a temporary console exclusive.

This comes from GSC Game World founder Sergiy Grygorovych, speaking in an interview with the YouTuber OLDBoi (as spotted by Insider Gaming). Here, Grygorovych explains how Stalker 2 became a temporary Xbox console exclusive and available on Game Pass - and it certainly wasn’t cheap.

In the interview, Grygorovych said the battle between Microsoft and Sony benefited them greatly. Xbox was massively impressed by how many views the Stalker 2 trailer was getting, and in a bid to get one over on PlayStation, it seems that price was no object.

“We took more than the cost of Stalker 2 [from Xbox],” says Grygorovych. “It paid for itself before the first day.”

That gives us some insight into how Xbox operated under Phil Spencer. It would have been his job to keep an eye out for potential hits that could pad out Game Pass, and deal a blow to Sony...
