It’s been a pretty good year for Nintendo’s more fringe characters. Not only did we have a new Star Fox game release for the first time in over a decade, but we also got a new Yoshi game too, albeit one more marketed towards Nintendo’s younger audience.
Both of these characters were also featured in the Super Mario Galaxy Movie that released earlier this year too, and if you’ve ever wondered whether Nintendo deliberately released a new Star Fox game after Fox’s big screen debut was deliberate, Miyamoto has the answer for you.
In a recent interview with Famitsu (thanks Nintendo Everything), Miyamoto was asked how Nintendo decides which characters to give games, what with Star Fox, Donkey Kong, and Yoshi all getting high-profile titles recently. It’s during his answer that he revealed the Super Mario Galaxy movie played a big part.
“I don’t decide everything about the lineup, but we did discuss that we have an idea to include Fox in the script for the movie, so we definitely want a new Star Fox game,” says Miyamoto.
Despite the characters showing up on the big screen for Mario Galaxy, there isn't some grand plan for a Smash Bros....
