Resident Evil Remakes Are "Just As Important As The Mainline Titles", Capcom Says

Capcom finally found its footing with the Resident Evil series again thanks to Biohazard, and there hasn't been a noticeable gap between releases in the decade since, unlike other triple-A studios that typically take years to get new games out. That's in part because of the remakes, which help to plug the gap between mainline titles. But Capcom doesn't just view the remakes as a convenient way to keep the momentum going.

Speaking to Game Informer Magazine for its latest issue (via NintendoEverything), Capcom producer Masachika Kawata explained that the publisher places the remakes on the same pedestal as brand-new entries.

"Being able to revisit older games and remake them helps Capcom meet that goal of releasing a Resident Evil title each year, but it also allows the team to continually challenge themselves and hone their craft," Kawata said. "That's not to say the remakes are any less important. In fact, they're just as important as the mainline titles."
