Halo: Campaign Evolved Has Split-Screen On PC, It's Just Hidden

Sitting on the couch with your friend and tearing through the Flood until 2am is a Halo rite of passage. Even if you were holding an unplugged controller for ten minutes, only to realize you were standing completely still at the start of the level. Just me? Okay, moving on. Point is, local co-op is a pillar of the franchise, but for whatever reason, Campaign Evolved launched without it on PC.

At least, that’s how it looks on the surface. I knew it wouldn’t be long before modders got to work on fixing Halo Studios’ mistake and brought split-screen co-op to PC, but JPurd123 made a startling discovery while doing so. They claim that split-screen does exist on the PC version and is even enabled in the config files. It’s just hidden from the menus.

“The console builds of Halo: Campaign Evolved ship local split-screen,” they explained. “The PC build never had it stripped out — it ships with split-screen already enabled in config (bUseSplitscreen=True), and the split-screen HUD layouts, the sign-in UI, the split-screen VFX variants and the audio parameters are all still cooked into the game files.
