Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Director Says A Physical Release Isn't Guaranteed Yet

PlayStation is killing games at the start of 2028, refusing to manufacture discs for new releases past that point. This is despite multiple petitions and people of note in the games industry urging a change of opinion, but Sony seems determined to stick to this plan.

That means new games that launch after January 2028 won’t get physical releases, but the silver lining is that at least this means games released between now and then will still have physicals, right? We can still enjoy physical games for a little over a year, right?

Unfortunately, even though PlayStation is happy to manufacture discs for games releasing in 2027, not every publisher might be bothered. One of those publishers could be Square Enix, as Final Fantasy 7 Revelation director Naoki Hamaguchi has revealed in a new interview (thanks GamesRadar) that the game still isn’t guaranteed to get a physical release at this stage.
