Gears Of War Dev Promises No "Bullsh*t" Like Battle Passes In E-Day

The Coalition has released an extensive deep dive into what we can expect from multiplayer in Gears of War: E-Day, from a 12-player PvE horde mode to the refined 4v4 Versus PvP. But perhaps the most exciting detail is that the team are firmly saying no to the usual live-service "gimmicks" that most multiplayer games launch with these days.

"Remember the good ol' days when you bought a game and you could unlock all the customization items just by playing because you already bought the game?" the blog post reads. "Us too! So, when it comes to growing your own collection of customization items in E-Day, we've taken a more old-school inspired approach. Nearly every single item in Gears of War: E-Day can be earned by simply playing the game. That means no battle pass, no tour of duty, no gimmicks, no bullsh*t."

There will still be post-launch updates and seasons, but the team promises that "you can unlock new items directly" through completing event challenges, unlocking achievements, and by earning medals in a Gears 3-inspired system.
