As successful as Baldur's Gate 3 has been, the game isn't for everyone, myself included. I adore the world and characters, but the gameplay and pacing didn't appeal to me. Warlock appears to address these specific issues, but it still has a lot to prove before it comes anywhere close to matching the pre-launch hype of Baldur's Gate 3.

Following the official gameplay reveal at Gamescom 2026, which was introduced by Maggie Robertson, a lot more eyes are now firmly fixed on Warlock, which is due to release some time in 2027. Since it shares a universe with Baldur's Gate 3, the comparisons are understandable, but from a gameplay standpoint, all signs suggest they couldn't be further apart.

The official gameplay reveal of Warlock was advertised ahead of time for Opening Night Live during Gamescom 2026, which in some ways applies even more pressure as expectations start to build. Based on the initial responses we're seeing online, it's been a hit with gamers excited to see more of the world and story to come.
