Pearl Abyss just announced the Crimson Desert enhanced edition at Gamescom Opening Live... five months after launch. It's the kind of thing you'd expect to launch with a next-gen console or maybe after a couple of expansions (a bit like the surprise Witcher 3 remaster), but nonetheless, there's a lot in store for this update.
Available now, this free upgrade includes "new story moments", expanded voice-over for German, French, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, and Japanese, Arabic interface and subtitle support, and all post-launch updates. As for what "new story moments" encompass, Pearl Abyss confirmed in a subsequent Steam blog post that we can expect new cutscenes throughout the main questline.
An overhaul to the narrative, made abundantly clear with the shiny new 'enhanced' wrapping, isn't too surprising given how candid Pearl Abyss was about the narrative. Shortly after launch, CEO Heo Jin-Young admitted that "we wish we could have done it better" and that "the team tried to fill in the lacking parts within the remaining time." The focus was squarely on gameplay, however, so the story fell to the side.
