Initially announced alongside the smashing success of Riot Games' FPS shooter Valorant, the studio's take on 2D fighters with 2XKO was initially met with wide praise from League of Legends fans and fighting game enthusiasts alike. Despite the positive perception and character updates, however, Riot Games is officially shutting down 2XKO less than one year since it debuted.
Initially spotted by Wario64 on X, Riot is planning to end active development of 2XKO in December 2026, while refunding all players who spent money on in-game microtransactions "on or before August 20." In addition to the end-of-service announcement, 2XKO will also be unlocking all paid champions on the roster.
As a result of the lack of continued player interest, 2XKO's active development means there won't be any more content updates after the December date. Until that date, however, 2XKO's developers claim that there is still more content on the way throughout the next 4 months that they're excited to share with players.
