Navigating the treacherous, radiation-soaked wasteland of the Zone has always been quite a solitary endeavor, but that’s about to change.

Ever since S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl made its dramatic arrival, players have spent countless hours scavenging for meager supplies and keeping an eye out for bloodsuckers lurking in the shadows. Now, following the 2.0 update and the recent launch of the Cost of Hope expansion, developer GSC Game World is already setting its sights on what lies ahead for its cult-favorite survival shooter – and the next steps sound as ambitious as we would expect from the studio.

Rejecting Copycat Mechanics for Hardcore Stalkers

Speaking in an interview at gamescom 2026 (thanks, Rock, Paper, Shotgun!), GSC Game World CEO Ievgen Grygorovych and Head of Creative Mariia Grygorovych opened up about the studio's long-term roadmap.

Basically, the team officially confirmed that two major projects represent the developer's immediate future: a second story expansion and the free multiplayer mode, which is already highly anticipated.
