A former id Software developer has opened up about the conditions at the studio shortly before the layoffs. This was around the same time that the team was working on DLC for Doom: The Dark Ages - which was reportedly made under severe crunch conditions.
Speaking with Reece “Kiwi Talkz” Reilly for Insider Gaming, former ID Software producer Andrew Willis said that the Doom DLC, Revelations, was made under the "worst" crunch of many developers' careers. He says he personally put in 80 hours a week to get the DLC out the door, only to be laid off on launch day.
"There were two months where I was working something like at least 12 hours every day," Willis says. "I know I hit 17 a couple of days. It was brutal, and the majority of the game got made in three or four months."
