Metroid Dread was a fantastic return to form for the Metroid series, a fast-paced, tense 2D adventure that focused on Samus's adaptability and rewarded quick thinking. Dread was a massive hit, and its success has finally led to a sequel. We won't have to wait long to get our hands on it, with the game releasing on January 28th, 2027.

Announced during the September 9th Nintendo Direct, Metroid Ravenous is a direct follow-up to Metroid Dread, focusing again on Samus's unique nature as a human/Choso hybrid. Metroid as a series has always treated its narrative with a gameplay-primary focus, which served Dread perfectly, and Ravenous seems no different.

Maintaining Dreadful Power

Welding the power to absorb the energy from foes she gained at the climax of Dread, Ravenous seems to be putting extra narrative and mechanical focus on her capacity to drain enemies for unique attacks and forms. Giving extra mechanical weight to Samus's Metroid DNA is a great way to further the beautiful link between narrative and gameplay the series has maintained, rewarding longtime fans.
