As a PC-primary gamer, I do the vast majority of my gaming and library management through Steam, just like pretty much everyone else. It’s simply the most convenient option for keeping everything squared, and Valve doesn’t annoy me. In spite of Steam being the predominant choice for PC gaming for decades, other major gaming companies have attempted to get a slice of the pie with their own clients and launchers for nearly as long, with the only one to have a modicum of success being the Epic Games Store. This is a major reason I don’t play Ubisoft games much, for instance, because it has an obnoxious tendency to force you to download its client even if you buy the game on Steam.
However, it seems this obnoxious practice is finally coming to an end. Eagle-eyed Steam users on Reddit and X have discovered a library-hidden patch note from Ubisoft announcing a new in-Steam tool that will manage all the account-based minutiae that comes with playing Ubisoft games.
