According to sources, Nvidia may release an updated version of the GeForce RTX 4070 graphics card that includes GDDR6 video memory rather than the current GDDR6X chips. The potential move by Nvidia to GDDR6 video memory from the faster GDDR6X VRAM results from a shortage of the latter chips due to quality check failures and supply cuts.

Originally released in April 2023, the GeForce RTX 4070 runs on Nvidia's Ada Lovelace architecture, with 12GB of GDDR6X video memory and compatibility with ray tracing and DLSS technologies. The RTX 4070 is targeted at PC builders looking to play games at either 1080p or 1440p resolutions, as it can struggle with 4K gaming without some graphical adjustments. At the time of writing, the cheapest version of the RTX 4070, the MSI Ventus 2X OC, was marked at $539 on Amazon and Newegg.
