Metro Quietly Hits 50 Million Sales and Keeps Its Free Upgrade Tradition Alive

There is something strangely appropriate about Metro reaching one of its biggest milestones while continuing to lurk somewhat quietly in the background. For 16 years, the series has built its reputation around claustrophobic tunnels, oppressive darkness, existential themes, and a world where every trip to the surface feels like a terrible idea.

So it has never exactly been the loudest franchise in the room, but that hasn't stopped millions of players from following its journey underground (including myself!).

Now, Metro has reached a milestone that is anything but quiet: the franchise has officially surpassed 50 million copies sold worldwide, according to Deep Silver’s latest statement. And with another chapter of the series on the horizon, players have a particularly good reason to dust off their gas masks and return to where it all began.

Metro Redux Is Getting a Free Next-Gen Upgrade

To celebrate this incredible news, the developers have announced a substantial free update for Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux, bringing both games up to speed with modern PC and console hardware.
