When I was younger, there were a handful of RPGs that were always in my rotation. Final Fantasy and Phantasy Star, Dragon Quest (or Dragon Warrior), but there were also a few dark horses, such as Lufia, which made appearances on the Super Nintendo, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance. Since then, though, we haven’t heard much from the series at all, which is a shame because Lufia was a fantastic RPG franchise. Well, that’s not true anymore as Clear River Games, which has been steadily bringing classic retro titles back to modern platforms, has teamed up with TAITO to revive the series with Lufia I & II The Sinistrals Saga.
Announced during the PC Gaming Show Tokyo, Lufia I & II The Sinistrals Saga brings together 1993’s Lufia & the Fortress of Doom and its acclaimed 1995 prequel, Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals, in one collection. The collection is scheduled to launch digitally sometime in 2027 for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2, with physical editions for the consoles planned for a later date. Sadly, Xbox gamers are being left out, and honestly, that sucks.
