In your average racing game, a crash might cost you time or a restart, but Star Wars: Galactic Racer has worked to turn that expense into a reward in a variety of ways. Fuse has built its runs-based campaign around the idea that crashing out of a tour does not make your efforts so far in vain.
Creative Director Kieran Crimmins explains the philosophy behind it in an XBOX Wire feature. He describes how his studio has "a history of trying to make failure fun." In Galactic Racer, it's less likely to come in the feeling of getting away with it and more likely to come from seeing how a bad result feeds into the next decision, whether it's a permanent upgrade or a different build or a clearer idea of what not to risk.
There are still real consequences, though. Some events only give you a limited number of crashes, while losing certain high-stakes races can cost you a League Token. Using up all the permitted crashes can force you to restart the current tour, and failing certain high-stakes events can also cost a League Token.
