Game development, and especially indie game development, can be a very lengthy and very opaque process. As most of us know well from the literal years of radio silence that preceded the release of Hollow Knight: Silksong, a small project can seemingly vanish from the public eye almost entirely, with only the barest hint that it’s even still in development. While this can be frustrating, it does become all the more exciting when these games finally reemerge into the spotlight.
During today’s Nintendo Indie World presentation, one such game reemerged from a lengthy period of dormancy. That game is Tenjutsu, a sidescrolling martial arts action roguelike being headed up by one Sébastien Benard, best known for his previous work as a lead dev on the critically-acclaimed roguevania game Dead Cells during his tenure at Motion Twin.
Tenjutsu was originally announced by its publisher, Devolver Digital, in a standalone trailer back in June of 2024, but updates have been relatively scarce since then. The game’s new trailer in the Indie World presentation revealed that it’ll be targeting a launch for some time in 2027, both for its originally-announced platform on PC and on the Nintendo Switch 2.
