The original Flappy Bird creator, Dong Nguyen, says that he has nothing to do with the game's upcoming return. The famous indie developer also distanced himself from a key technology that could be driving the planned Flappy Bird comeback.
Flappy Bird's return was announced in mid-September 2024, ten and a half years after Nguyen pulled the game from the Google Play Store and iOS App Store, stating that it was "gone forever." Its new version is in development by a group called The Flappy Bird Foundation. The promotional materials for the project are all written in first person, from the perspective of the titular bird.
While big-budget games tend to get a lot of commercial attention, these low-budget games blew players away with their amazing stories and gameplay.
That notwithstanding, Nguyen himself is not involved in the project in any way, having said as much in a recent social media post. Taking to Twitter on September 15, the Vietnamese developer clarified that he has no relation to the comeback game and "did not sell anything" that would have placed it into motion.
