NetEase and Bungie have announced Destiny: Rising, a mobile spinoff of the hugely popular MMORPG-FPS hybrid Destiny, and it's getting a closed alpha playtest next month.
In an official announcement, NetEase describes Destiny: Rising as a "new epic free-to-play mobile sci-fi RPG shooter" with a variety of playable heroes, a "shared world", and several game modes. It'll offer both first-person and third-person shooter gameplay.
The game will take place "within the rich tapestry of the Destiny universe" and will be both developed and published by NetEase itself, although naturally, the game is officially licensed by Bungie.
NetEase says that Destiny: Rising will be set "in an alternate Destiny timeline" and will explore a story "in the post-Dark Age era", likely to avoid any chance of tangling up the series' canon ahead of Bungie's upcoming Destiny 2 efforts.
The game will feature single-player, co-op, and competitive gameplay, just like Destiny itself, and will also feature both "game modes familiar to Destiny players" and "all-new modes that introduce new ways" to experience the core gameplay.
