The Monster Hunter series is becoming a behemoth. While the game had its fanbase, Monster Hunter: World propelled the series into the mainstream, becoming Capcom's top-selling game of all time, ahead of anything in the Resident Evil franchise. 2021's Monster Hunter Rise, incidentally, is Capcom's second best seller. So, naturally, anticipation was high ahead of Monster Hunter Wilds' open beta.
A datamine of the Monster Hunter Wilds Open Beta has potentially leaked several unannounced returning monsters.
The beta went live yesterday, and while a high player count was expected, nobody quite expected it to be as... wild as it has been.
According to SteamDB, Monster Hunter Wilds Beta test hit a staggering peak of 463,798 on the Valve-owned platform, making it the third-highest concurrent player count for a new title this year, behind Black Myth: Wukong and Palworld.
This means the Wilds Beta, which launched three days early on PS Plus, has beaten Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, which Microsoft said was the series' biggest release ever, Helldivers 2, and Amazon's immensely popular new MMO, Throne and Liberty—no mean feat for a beta.
