Fortnite is the latest game to receive its customary free holiday update, and in addition to new skins, and content in both Save the World mode and Battle Royale, the latter is also getting split screen co-op for the first time on consoles. Players will be able to play two-player co-op in either Duos or Squads modes.

Lengthy patch notes were released separately for each mode. In addition to the new split screen functionality, Battle Royale's update also makes some UI changes to ammo count and increased the maximum daily gifted items in the Shop from 3 to 5.

Additionally, the game received some behind-the-scenes adjustments to prepare for this weekend's exclusive premiere of a scene from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. J.J. Abrams will be present for the reveal of a never-before-seen clip from the upcoming blockbuster, and players wishing to tune in should arrive to the map's Risky Reels region and find a seat by the movie screen. Hilariously just like a real life event, "doors" open at 1:30 pm Eastern and the show starts at 2 pm Eastern. The full Battle Royale patch notes can be found here.

In Save The World mode, players will find a lot of new holiday content, such as the Ginger Blaster healing pistol, a Snowball Launcher, and a Winter Loot Llama available to burst open and share more festive items. Jess is also reimagined as Jingle Jess, fit with a Santa hat, Krampus appears with a sentry gun, and a new Holly Jolly Ransom quest line demands players assist the Homebase Heroes in rescuing the kidnapped Crackshot, last year's star nutcracker hero who has now been kidnapped. The full patch notes for these and more Save The World changes can be found here.

The patch is available now on consoles and, as always, free for all players.
