As a longtime Resident Evil and Nintendo fan, I had to wait a very long time for Requiem, so I was all the happier to be able to play the latest installment on the Nintendo Switch 2. Resident Evil 7 biohazard and Resident Evil Village were bold reinterpretations of the series, and Resident Evil Requiem takes the best of both. The developers pulled off the bold experiment—switching between characters—with flying colors, and it provides plenty of variety. The overall package, combining story, graphics, and sound design, is impressive. With about 13–18 hours of gameplay for the first playthrough, the title fits right in with the other Resident Evil games, which offered a similar playtime. Horror games are often misunderstood and can trigger an overwhelming sense of exhilaration. Not every game has to be colorful and put a smile on your face—it’s okay to let yourself get scared or shocked every once in a while. With Resident Evil Requiem, Capcom has presented us with the spin-off of the horror series that fans have been expecting and deserve. Those who want more in terms of technical capabilities than the Nintendo Switch 2 can currently offer should opt for a different console or a PC.

The year is 2026—February, to be exact. Resident Evil 7 biohazard was released more than nine years ago, in January 2017, for Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Resident Evil Village followed five years later, in May 2021. Anyone who has avoided the cloud versions of these two games so far and owns a Nintendo Switch 2 is definitely in for a treat here. And with what we’ve seen so far of Resident Evil Requiem on the Nintendo Switch 2, Resident Evil fans will have more than enough horror to sink their teeth into on Nintendo’s current console this year.

Mario Tennis Fever isn't just another run-of-the-mill spin-off—and it doesn't aim to be. The new Fever rackets shift the focus away from simple rally-based tennis toward a game that places greater emphasis on risk, timing, and tactical decisions. Those who give it a try will find a surprisingly varied tennis experience with plenty of replay value.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is the spectacular kickoff to the trilogy of the Final Fantasy VII remake project. If you’re a fan of the series, haven’t played this title yet, and own a Nintendo Switch 2, this is an absolute must-have. Fun is guaranteed in both TV and handheld modes on the Nintendo Switch 2! With 30–50 hours of gameplay, you get an absolutely top-notch game for around 50 euros, which is a visual showcase title for the Nintendo Switch 2. Despite minor pacing issues that drag out the Midgar section, the game never gets boring. The visuals, soundscape, music, and story are absolute highlights and are sure to make every gamer’s heart race. We just hope that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth doesn’t take too long to arrive and is executed just as well. Square Enix has also confirmed that the upcoming third installment will be released for the Nintendo Switch 2.

Super Chipflake Ü: Quest for the Uncooked Schnitzel takes a little time to warm up—just like a good schnitzel. Instead of combat and skill trees, the game focuses on curiosity, a spirit of experimentation, and humorous discoveries. The compact open world, the creative item system, and the charming presentation style create a unique identity that is clearly aimed at fans of Banjo-Kazooie or Conker’s Bad Fur Day.

OCTOPATH TRAVELER 0 is a surprisingly great game that has far outgrown its origins as a mobile gacha game and has become a fully-fledged and worthy addition to the franchise.

The gameplay formula has been cleverly expanded with the Psy powers, and the story leaves you wanting more! It’s fun to explore the areas, and the Volt Forge is my favorite. Sylux and his army of space pirates don’t get enough screen time for my taste, and the Metroids have also been reduced to a footnote.

Two Point Museum is a very successful upgrade from the previous games. It takes all the elements that worked well in the earlier installments and adds a whole lot of variety and fun on top of that.

Kirby Air Riders picks up exactly where the GameCube title—Kirby Air Ride—left off. This Nintendo Switch 2 spin-off improves and expands upon the core gameplay with useful additions like a story mode and even more customization options for each mode. The title really shines in multiplayer, as the fun factor is immense and the variety of game modes ensures it doesn’t get boring too quickly. City Trial offers a completely new gaming experience with every run thanks to its numerous random elements and events. The selection of tracks, bikes, and riders is sufficiently large without being overwhelming. Kirby fans will discover plenty of Easter eggs and references to older titles in the franchise, and a smile is guaranteed. Just before the end of the year, Nintendo, together with Masahiro Sakurai, delivers another must-have title for a great multiplayer session with friends and family.

If you enjoyed Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment offers more of the same—and I don’t mean that as a criticism—and even more. Expanded combat options, thanks to character abilities and handy quality-of-life improvements, ensure plenty of fun and variety. By choosing to release exclusively on the Nintendo Switch 2, the game makes no technical compromises either.

It’s amazing what a development studio can pull off when it listens to feedback from all sides. Fans were asked what bothered them about the original Yooka-Laylee, and the developers addressed those issues head-on. In addition to numerous quality-of-life improvements, you’ll also get significantly more content and much smoother gameplay. Yooka-Replaylee also performs very well on the Nintendo Switch 2, though it could still use a few updates in terms of performance. At its core, Yooka-Replaylee now feels like what it actually wanted to be 8 years ago: a true spiritual successor to the two classics, Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie.

Lumo 2 is a very successful tribute to British games from the 1980s and 1990s. It’s a joy to puzzle your way through the rooms and figure things out for yourself through trial and error. However, if you have a low tolerance for frustration or don’t want to take the time to make progress through trial and error, Lumo 2 might not be the right game for you.

Plants vs. Zombies: Replanted is a worthy, expanded remaster of the classic game that brings it up to date for the modern gaming era. The game also comes with bonus content that further enhances the experience. Longtime fans will get their money’s worth here, but it remains to be seen whether the game can attract new fans. After all, the tower defense scene hasn’t stood still in recent years—other games in this genre offer more refined gameplay mechanics and more varied levels that feel more modern overall.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A is an ambitious game packed with new ideas—and that’s exactly what makes it so exciting. It breaks with old conventions, ventures into real-time battles, incorporates stealth mechanics, and takes the gameplay to a level of detail never seen before. But this departure comes at a cost. Technical flaws, a somewhat limited setting, and occasional design complications raise questions of balance. However, if you can overlook these weaknesses—and embrace the new gameplay format—Pokémon Legends: Z-A offers a fresh, rewarding experience that can captivate Pokémon fans in new ways. It’s not a perfect game, but it’s an important one: a sign that Game Freak is willing to experiment. And even if the path remains rocky, it’s heading in the right direction.

Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Compared to other games like Diablo, it’s obviously not particularly complex. But that’s part of its charm, and it’s a must-have, especially for fans of the Nicktoons series. We had a lot of fun playing multiplayer, especially since we got to step into the shoes of our favorite heroes.

A must-have for all Mario fans and platformer enthusiasts. If you’ve only played Super Mario Galaxy so far, you should consider whether it’s worth buying Super Mario Galaxy 2. You can also purchase it separately in the Nintendo eShop. You can enjoy both games in short bursts or play them for longer stretches at a time. While these games are pricey on the Nintendo Switch, they’re absolutely worth it!

Anyone who plays Gloomy Eyes might immediately think of Tim Burton films like Corpse Bride or The Nightmare Before Christmas. But while Burton’s work is often eccentric and grotesque, Gloomy Eyes remains more intimate and gentle.

The Edge of Allegoria does a better job of capturing the look of classic Game Boy games than it does the actual feel. The system for mastering weapons and equipment to learn skills and boost stats is a great idea. Even though the writing and the dungeons leave something to be desired, the game still has its moments and also features a little twist in the finale that I didn't see coming.

Chronos: The New Dawn gets a lot of things right, though it doesn’t exactly reinvent the wheel. The atmosphere immediately draws the player in and makes you want to discover more and more of this world. The technical execution, while not perfect, looks great on the Nintendo Switch 2 and certainly holds its own against other versions. As a bonus, the Nintendo Switch 2 version supports mouse controls, which worked surprisingly well for a shooter. With a satisfying playtime of 15–20 hours, Chronos: The New Dawn offers plenty of fun. If you liked Resident Evil 4 or Dead Space, you definitely shouldn’t pass up Chronos. The atmosphere is simply amazing!
