Nintendo Connect's Reviews

An absolute must-have for mecha fans, this game delivers a thoroughly compelling gameplay experience despite its limitations, challenges players in significant ways, and offers a glimpse of what a new installment in the Xenoblade Chronicles series on the Nintendo Switch 2 might look like.

The game was already great on Nintendo Switch, and on Nintendo Switch 2 it’s even better thanks to improved performance, stunning graphics, and new content—making it a must-have for any collection. Kirby and the Forgotten Land – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World is the ultimate version of this charming 3D platformer.

The combination of farm work, crafting, animal care, and social interactions works exceptionally well. The wide range of options, the voice acting, and the varied soundtrack all come together to create an immersive experience. Even the occasional slight stutter during cutscenes and on stormy days doesn't detract much from the experience.

Drag x Drive is a fascinating blend of sports, arcade, and social gameplay—though there’s a risk that the initial excitement will fizzle out. If Nintendo were to regularly expand the game with new modes, cosmetic items, and match variety, I think the score could even climb to the 70–75% range. So far, however, we haven’t received any indications regarding a roadmap or further support for the game.

The upgrade on the Nintendo Switch 2 brings a host of useful additions to an already strong party game. New modes, creative controls, and a greater focus on interaction make the game more expansive and accessible for both local and online play. However, some features require additional hardware (such as a camera), and the camera mode in particular doesn't seem quite polished yet.

84% - SOMA
Jul 22, 2025

Soma, despite its technical shortcomings on the Nintendo Switch, has kept me hooked. Its incredible atmosphere more than makes up for its flaws. The story, though confusing at first, becomes utterly compelling as it unfolds through numerous twists and turns. Why are there no humans left? Why are we 89 years in the future? These questions are answered—but in a deeply thought-provoking way. The excellent soundscape and atmospheric sounds made me feel like I was on PATHOS-II. With fantastic ambient sounds, an intense atmosphere, and a playtime of 8 to 12 hours, Soma isn’t a long game, but it’s just the right length to keep boredom at bay. If a patch or the Switch 2 version addresses technical issues, Soma is a must-buy for all horror fans.

Ruffy and the Riverside is a creative and heartwarming platformer with original gameplay mechanics. The blend of nostalgia, clever gameplay, and a likable cast makes the game a hidden gem in the indie scene. Its pacing issues are hardly noticeable thanks to its charming presentation and engaging collection system.

The “Gex Trilogy” brings back a long-forgotten video game character—complete with all his strengths and weaknesses. Platformer fans and nostalgic Gex enthusiasts should definitely check it out. Everyone else should be aware that charming music and extras are offset by weak sound design, tired one-liners, and terrible audio quality—often unintelligible, even at maximum volume.

Sea of Stars: Throes of the Watchmaker isn't a massive story DLC, but it offers nearly ten hours of gameplay packed with surprises, clever design, and a compelling atmosphere. The new mechanics, the focus on the fascinating watchmaker, and the many small improvements make this DLC a real treat.

Overall, there’s really nothing to criticize about Sunderfolk’s implementation—it’s very well done. However, the Nintendo Switch version has noticeably blurry textures and missing objects, which is clearly evident when comparing the trailer to the in-game footage. We hope this will be fixed or at least addressed with an update for Nintendo Switch 2.

Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition does exactly what the name suggests: it renders the original obsolete. You no longer have to buy a Wii U just for Xenoblade Chronicles X—you can now play every game in the Xenoblade series on Nintendo Switch! The new improvements and expanded story have completely won us over, bringing the game up to par with the other Xenoblade Chronicles titles.

Fans of sci-fi games and rich, open-ended stories will have a blast with Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector. It feels like a visual novel, but offers so much more, as your story is shaped by your decisions and actions. It’s like a good book that you don’t want to put down and just want to keep reading deeper and deeper into. Thanks to the different classes your Sleeper can take on, a new playthrough feels completely different. One downside is the lack of translation, as the language barrier is insurmountable for many players.

The game is fun. The combat system is dynamic and rewarding, and the character designs and artwork are beautiful. Add to that the rock-inspired, atmospheric soundtrack, and the negative aspects are almost forgotten. It’s also worth noting that Gust and Koei Tecmo have continued to patch the game in the meantime, so perhaps the technical implementation will improve even further.

Does the game replace real sports or the gym? No! If you're looking for an intense workout to get moving and motivate yourself to be more active outside your home, then Fitness Boxing 3 will definitely make you sweat. In the long run, though, I believe that a game like Ring Fit Adventure is more rewarding from a gameplay perspective. Fitness Boxing 3 is primarily a training tool and not a game in the traditional sense. That doesn’t diminish its value, but I think it should serve more as an additional tool to help get you moving and working out.

Technically speaking, Stray on Nintendo Switch is at its best. Every now and then, though, there were a few minor glitches. For instance, my cat’s position shifted once—she was essentially teleported around a bit.

DRAGON QUEST III HD-2D Remake is a journey into the past without explicitly revealing that it is the past. The HD-2D visuals shine brilliantly and build anticipation for the other planned remakes in the series. The new quality-of-life features, such as adjustable battle speed and auto-save, are fitting modern additions that help overlook the game’s older roots.

The creative combat system keeps you on your toes at all times. The game’s satisfying length and imaginative world, brimming with wit and charm, elevate it to the same level as other hit RPGs on the Nintendo Switch. We hope that after this adventure, the brothers won’t fall back into a slumber that lasts too long, and that they’ll soon lead us on another adventure in this—or another—world.

The Smurfs: Dreams is a solid, Smurf-tastic game that surprised us during our testing. We expected a Super Mario clone, but it exceeded our expectations. It’s a solid, creative, and challenging platformer that impressed us with its truly beautiful level and sound design. The only drawbacks are the short playtime and the poorer image quality in handheld mode.
